Terms and Definitions

Fluency: the ability to read quickly and accurately with some inflection

Vocabulary: words that students must be able to recognize and comprehend in order to construct meaning of the text

Comprehension: being able to understand what you are reading without being told explicitly what is happening; being able to make inferences about the text

Critical thinking: thinking with polite skepticism, examining hidden assumptions, and questioning what you are hearing and reading rather than simply believing them \

Fiction: prose literature (short stories and novels) about imaginary events and people.

Non-fiction: an account, narrative, or representation of a subject which an author presents as fact (biographies, autobiographies, et cetera)

Drama: a play for theater, radio, or television
